Lahti Institute of Design &amp; Fine Art has long been connected with that industry. We can look back to the late 1990s when graduates began working in the vehicle design industry globally, via our connections with other design institutes such as the RCA in London. We aim to enable design graduates to pursue careers designing future transportation products and services within the engineering and styling parameters of the automotive, transportation and mobility <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCX11740336\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCX11740336\">industry<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Product Design and Intelligent Mobility studies at the institute allow students to focus on their own speciality topics, including innovative personal mobility, public transport, agricultural machinery, commercial, and freight vehicle design. The types of vehicles you can design vary from supercars to supertankers. Students achieve understanding in the processes of ideation, design, product research and development, usability, ergonomics and user centred design, user interface design, project management, branding, and a variety of visualisation, illustration and modelling techniques.<\/p>\n<p>Key content includes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>industry standard\u00a0ideation and\u00a0visualisation in 2D and 3D<\/li>\n<li>industry standard model making using\u00a0clay and 3D printing<\/li>\n<li>understanding of sculptural 3D form and proportions<\/li>\n<li>vehicle design\u00a0processes and project management<\/li>\n<li>vehicle safety, aerodynamics and security<\/li>\n<li>ecological sustainable design, cultural values, and branding<\/li>\n<li>vehicle\u00a0engineering, human machine interface and\u00a0ergonomics<\/li>\n<li>structures and materials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/opinto-opas.lab.fi\/en\/68177\/en\/127795?fbclid=IwAR3lwdfuph7DMCUn4CQjcEoFqBuyJpP9Gozt0rVRUT7Ipq459ScnsXzkFqo\">Study Guide<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>We currently teach in Finnish and English (officially Finnish) but almost all our teachers are proficient in English.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><b>Applicant requirements<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>This field of design requires superb aesthetic perception in three dimensional form, intelligence and applied thinking, cooperation and communication skills, entrepreneurship and creative problem-solving abilities and a passion to design far future products and services for and around humans. Vehicle design requires advanced planning, trend analysis, branding and marketing awareness. Selection is based on the entrance examination, plus candidate interviews.<\/p>\n<p>At the discretion of the\u00a0Design Institute,\u00a0applicants who do not meet the general eligibility criteria, but are\u00a0deemed to have sufficient knowledge and skills and that show exceptional talent, may be selected.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants are selected on the basis of the entrance examination. The final selection is based on\u00a0entrance examination success.
